Our second prompt comes from Laureezy. She asks:
Does pineapple belong on pizza?

Let’s get a few things out of the way. Laureezy, you are very cheeky and foul for this question. Cheeky because you took it out of the examples I gave for prompts (which I was hoping no one would do) and foul for starting a food war in this sacred space on day 2 of its humble operation.
Onward. I come from a place where pineapples are grown widely, so pineapples have been a feature in my life for as long as I can remember. If one can eat way too much of something, I wager I have eaten way too many pineapples. I am not crazy about the fruit, but I do not hate it. I’d say I hold a feeling between ambivalence and love. Few things are better than a cold pineapple on a sunny day (one of which is a cold watermelon on a sunny day. If you want to fight me, do so with your chest in the comments.)
The way I feel about pineapples is the same way I feel about pizza. I do not go to a restaurant and consider having pizza. In fact, I only ever have pizza because of my friends (when they order takeout, or when they decide to meet up at a pizza joint.) So this debate about whether pineapples belong on pizza is baffling to me. I’d rather fight about what should be banned between omena and githeri (the answer is githeri, of course.)
I don’t care about whether pineapples are put on pizza. On the one hand, they give it a sweet/savoury taste, they make it juicy, and you get some vitamin C. On the other hand, though, you get to participate in this ridiculous argument when you meet a pineapple-on-pizza hater, then the pineapple pieces irritate your mouth (this is an actual thing guys, pineapples don’t want to be eaten so they irritate your mouth because of an enzyme called bromelain that breaks down protein), then there’s the fact that pizza purists do not believe that fruit should be on pizza because the Italians did not see it fit when gifting us the dish.
Me? I say whatever. Put pineapples on pizza. Or don’t. Just ban githeri.
